Thomas Samuel Barr 1913-2003

Obituary:
Thomas Samuel Barr, son of Samuel Pearl Barr and Zada Ethel McMurtrey Barr was born October 9, 1913 in Clarke County, Iowa and departed this life February 3, 2003 at the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, Iowa at 89 years of age. He grew up on his father's farm in Knox Township near Lacelle, Iowa where he also attended Clarke County Rural Schools. He was united in marriage to Edna Grace Sanders, December 7, 1938 at Princeton, Missouri. Two children, Richard and Sandra blessed this union. When he was nine years old, he began driving his father's tractor. He loved his tractors and remained a dedicated farmer throughout his life. He loved to till the soil, plant the seeds, and watch them grow until harvest time. One of his especially proud times was when he was featured in a national magazine, "Grace Fertilizer" monthly publication. He had bought one of the last International tractors made. He was so proud of this magazine and would show it to all who came to visit. Tom left the farm for 20 years and became a successful road and soil conservation contractor. He enjoyed this aspect of moving earth for the betterment of soil conservation. He later returned to the farm to be a full time farmer. Tom's two favorite past times were riding his motorcycles, atv's or flying his Piper Cub airplane. To this day, he leaves many friends and family talking about the jokes he played on them and stories throughout the years. Tom was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Sylvia; brother in laws, Bill Gray and Melvin Worden. Thomas leaves to mourn his passing; wife, Edna; son, Richard Barr and wife Kathy; daughter, Sandra Barr-Roller and husband Brett all of Osceola, IA; Grandchildren, Robin Barr Linskens and husband Gerard of Osceola, IA; Major Eric Barr and wife Julieann of Las Vegas, NV; Shawni Martin Hord and husband Scott of Parkton, NC; Lance Martin and wife Julie of Osceola, IA; great-grandchildren, Blake and Brooke Shultice & Megan Linskens of Osceola, IA; Alexis and Eisen Barr of Las Vegas, NV; Jon Hermosillo and Sydney Hord of Parkton, NC; and Madison & Alyssa Martin of Osceola, Ia as well as many other relatives and a host of friends.
