Dale Edwin Burgus
Dale Edwin Burgus, son of Fred Burgus and Winifred Inez Johnson Burgus, was born Sept. 29, 1923, in Murray and died Dec. 19, 2002, at his home in Osceola. He was 79.

He received his education in the Murray schools and graduated from Murray High School. A veteran of World War II, he served his country in the U.S. Navy.

He married Wylla “Billie” Duree on Aug. 10, 1946, at Saint Bernard Catholic Church in Osceola. The couple became the parents of four children, Delaine, Dayna, Debby and David.

The family lived for many years near Murray where Mr. Burgus farmed. He also worked for John Deere in Des Moines until he retired after 15 years in 1972. Mr. and Mrs. Burgus moved to Osceola in 1973.

Mr. Burgus was a member of William-Lochrie Post No. 405 of the American Legion in Murray and a member of the Osceola Eagles Aerie No. 3495 in Osceola.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 2000 and a grandson, Michael David Burgus.
He is survived by his four children, Delaine Gabel and her husband, Richard Gabel, of San Antonio, Texas, Dayna Dove of Iowa City, Debby Conroy and her husband, Guy Conroy, of Norwalk and David Burgus and his wife, Karen Burgus, of Osceola; eight grandchildren, Chris and Adrienne Burgus of Osceola, Tracy, Misty and Meisha Gabel of San Antonio; Ryan Dove of Des Moines and Sarah and Shawn Conroy of Norwalk; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Wayne Burgus and his wife, Roberta Burgus of Yuma, Ariz., as well as other relatives and a host of friends.

Memorial services for Mr. Burgus were Dec. 23 at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, Pastor Marty Burgus officiating. Military rites were by the Murray American Legion,William-Lochrie Post No. 405.
Interment of the cremains was in Maple Hill Cemetery at Osceola.
