Gale Dean Kindred

Gale Dean Kindred, son of Clarence Oliver Kindred and Beulah Faye Hagan Kindred, was born Feb. 11, 1948, at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon and died Aug. 8, 2002, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. He was 54.

He attended a country school, finished grade school in Weldon and graduated from Clarke Community High School in 1966. He was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Mr. Kindred grew up on a farm northeast of Van Wert where they raised up to 40,000 turkeys at a time.

He married Donna Leann Cole on June 10, 1966 and they became the parents of three children. The couple moved to a farm east of Osceola in 1973.

As a youth Mr. Kindred was active in FFA and served as chapter president. He earned a state poultry award and the Iowa Farmer Degree. He was active in organizing the Iowa Young Farmer Organization and was a charter member.

Mr. Kindred served a three-year term on the Clarke Community School Board. He devoted a lot of time to building a new softball field at the high school. He was a member of Clarke County Old Iron.

In addition to farming Mr. Kindred worked the past six years for Mail Contractors of America. He received their top driver of the year award in 1998.

He loved to work on the farm and build things out of old farm machinery and restore old tractors. Two of Mr. Kindred’s other interests were history and traveling.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; father; a brother, Ronal Gene Kindred and a nephew, Douglas Stephen Cole.

Mr. Kindred is survived by his wife; a son, Greg Kindred and his wife, Tina Kindred, of Osceola; two daughters, Lori White and her husband, Donnie White, of Sibley and Jennifer Kindred and her fiance, Brent Parrott, of Norwalk; his mother, Faye Kindred of Osceola; two sisters, Reva Beers and her husband, Ed Beers of Leon and Neva Lee McDowell and her husband, Orval McDowell, of Osceola.

Other relatives include his seven grandchildren, Carrie, Amanda and Audrey Kindred of Osceola, Taylor and Kaylee White of Sibley and Madison and Alexander Kim of Norwalk; parents-in-law, Don and Virginia Cole of Osceola; two brothers-in-law, Dennis Cole and his wife, Verla Cole, of Osceola and Dan Cole and his wife, Deb Cole, of Urbandale as well as nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Aug. 12 at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, the Rev. John Tunnicliff of Afton and the Rev. Phil Coe of Osceola officiating.

Casket bearers were Jim Emary, Mark Combs, Chuck Bright, Stephen Garmon, Lanny Robins and Randy Diehl. Honorary casket bearers were Oval McDowell, Ron McDowell, Gerald Pedersen, Charlie Morgan Merle Patterson, Ed Beers, Leland Dolecheck, Jim Asmus and Matt Diehl. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery in Osceola.
