Ethelene Annora Jones
Ethelene Annora Jones, daughter of Jerry and Nancy Bradshaw Moran, was born July 1, 1906, near Grand River and died Dec. 25, 2001, at West View Acres Care Center in Leon. She was 95.

She was the third of 13 children in the family and was educated in the rural schools of Decatur County and Grand River High School.

She met Harry Jones and they were married on May 17, 1923, at the Van Wert Methodist Church. The couple became the parents of five children, Harry Wayne, Betty Deloris, Norma Jean, Nancy Jane and Mancel Dwight.

They farmed in Decatur County before moving to Osceola. She devoted her time to her husband, children, grandchildren and her brothers and sisters. She was a Girl Scout leader, teaching the Scouts to sew.

Flowers, gardening, crocheting, quilting, sewing the famous “flannel pajamas and night gowns” for all, baking pies and doing crossword puzzles kept her busy. But she was never too busy to play a game of “cut-throat” pitch with her husband and family. She and Mr. Jones liked the small trips they took with her sister and husband, Evelyn and Joe Saddoris.

Mr. Jones died in November of 1983. After his death, she lived with her sister, Peggy Keller, in Des Moines. She later moved to the Bil-Mar apartments in Leon. As her health declined she moved to West View Acres Care Center. She was a member of the Osceola United Methodist Church.

Preceding her in death in addition to her husband were her parents; a son, Harry Wayne; a daughter, Norma Jean; a grandson Lonnie Eddy; a daughter-in-law, Joreen Jones Black, a grandson-in-law, Peter Sefton; a sister, Evelyn Saddoris, twin sisters, Peggy Keller and Polly Ladd and Mary and Minnie Moran; seven brothers, Lawrence “Pete”, Dennis “Sam”, Jerry “Buck”, William “Tick”, Woodrow “Woodie” and twin brothers, Ralph “Pop” and Raymond.

Mrs. Jones is survived by a son, Mancel Jones and his wife, Sharon Jones, of Des Moines; two daughters, Betty Eddy and her husband, J.D. Eddy, of Osceola and Nancy Price and her husband, Douglas Price, of Leon; eight grandchildren; Diane Davies of Universal City, Texas, Gary Jones of Des Moines, Scott Price of Lenexa, Kan., Kristine Sefton of Beverly Hills, Calif., Steven Price of Denver, Colo., Julie Kober of Racine, Wis. and Jason Jones of West Des Moines; 11 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Joseph Saddoris of Osceola; other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were Dec. 28 at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, The Rev. Jim Louk officiating. Pennie Gonseth, organist, accompanied Diane Davies as she sang, Irish Eyes are Smiling, The Old Rugged Cross and In the Garden.

Casket bearers were Gary Jones, Diane Davies, Scott Price, Karen Sassman, Steven Price, Kristi Sefton, Jason Jones and Julie Kober. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery in Osceola.
