Gerald Allison

Gerald Keith Allison passed away November 8, 2003.

Gerald was born on the family farm southeast of Nashua on November 19, 1912, the son of Bert and Eva (Zwanziger) Allison. He graduated from eighth grade in rural schools and then attended Nashua High School..

Gerald was united in marriage to Ethel M. Bullen on June 15, 1933, at West Union. To this union three children were born. They moved to the family farm in 1943, farming there until 1950, when they moved to the Ionia area. Gerald and his son Melvin started farming together in 1960. In 1963, Gerald and Ethel moved to their farm near Ionia where he continued to live until just recently becoming a resident at 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Gerald enjoyed going for rides and looking at nature's beauty. As a younger man he liked to hunt fox, squirrels and pheasants. He enjoyed eating, saying there wasn't hardly anything he didn't like. But, his true love was for farming and he took great pride in his livestock and land.

Gerald is survived by one daughter, Beverly Wedeking of Plainfield; one son: Melvin (Sharon) Allison of Ionia; nine grandchildren: Larry and Karen Wedeking, Julie and Robert Shankland, Mark and Karen Wedeking, Judy Wedeking, Cyndy and Joe Perkins, Sandy and Alan Haubrich, James and Gail Allison, Amy Allison and Jennifer Allison; fourteen great-grandchildren: Brittany Lentz, Nathan, Ethan and Chelsey Wedeking, Brandon and Joshua Shankland, Stacy and Taylor Wedeking, Blake Wedeking, Justin Haubrich, Cassidy and Valerie Allison, Kira and Marissa Schwickerath; one great-great-grandson, Kollyn Robert Lentz.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel M. Allison on January 28, 1994; a son, Loren; two brothers: Cecil and Russell Allison; one sister: Hazel Knapp; a son-in-law: Robert Wedeking; a grandson: Rodney Wedeking; a great-granddaughter: Halea Shankland.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 11, 2003 at the Ionia Congregational United Church of Christ. Pastor David McBride officiated. Organist was Jerry Baily and vocalist was Gail Allison. Casketbearers were: Joe Perkins, Alan Haubrich, Mark Wedeking, Jim Allison, Bob Shankland, Larry Wedeking. Honorary casketbearers were: Julie Shankland, Judy Wedeking, Karen Kay Wedeking, Karen Rene Wedeking, Cyndy Perkins, Sandy Haubrich, Amy Allison, Jennifer Allison, Gail Allison. Interment was in the Greenwood Cemetery, Nashua.

Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, Nashua, was in charge of the arrangements.
