Ethel Marion Allison

Ethel Marion Allison, 80, passed away Friday morning, January 28, 1994 at her rural Ionia farm home. She was born in Chickasaw County on January 20, 1914, the daughter of William and Grace (Harmon) Bullen. Ethel graduated from Nashua High School in 1832.

Gerald Allison and Ethel were united in marriage on June 15, 1933 at West Union, Iowa. To this union three children were born. They farmed for seven years before moving to the Ionia area in 1950. They moved to their present farm in 1963. She was a member of the Happy Hour Club for 50 years and help organize the Jolly Fifteen Club. Ethel loved to take pictures. Her house is full of pictures of her family, which brought her great enjoyment. She also enjoyed crocheting and made many pretty afghans. Ethel enjoyed taking trips and sightseeing with Gerald.

She is survived by her husband: Gerald; her daughter Beverly Wedeking of Plainfield; her son and daughter-in-law: Melvin and Sharon Allison of Ionia; her grandchildren: Larry & Karen Wedeking, Julie & Mark Shankland & Karen Wedeking, Judy Wedeking, Cyndy Allison, Sandy and Alan Haubrich, James & Gail Allison, Amy & Nick Schwickerath and Jennifer Allison; her great-grandchildren: Brittany, Nathan, Ethan & Chelsey Wedeking, Brandon and Joshua Shankland, Stacey Wedeking, Blake Wedeking and Justin Haubrich; two sisters: Alice Johnson of New Hampton and Lucille Pevetrorf: a brother Troy Knapp of Charles City.

Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; a son: Loren; a son-in-law, Robert Wedeking; a grandson: Rodney Wedeking; a great-granddaughter: Halea Shankland; a brother: Lowell Knapp; two sisters: Avis Downs and Neva Ulrich.

Funeral services were held February 1, 1994, at 1:30 p.m. at the Ionia Congregational United Church of Christ, Ionia, Iowa. Rev. Carol Kraus officiated. Janice Fritcher was organist and Gail Allison was vocalist. Interment is in Greenwood Cemetery, Nashua, Iowa.

Casketbearers were Larry Wedeking, Mark Wedeking, James Allison, Robert Shankland, Alan Haubrich, and Nick Schwickerath.

Chenoweth and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
