Mabel L. Haberly

Mabel L. Haberly, 99, of New Hampton, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, at the New Hampton Care Center of natural causes.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 11, at 1 p.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton with the Rev. David Bergstrom officiating.

Organist was Dennis Strom, who sang "Amazing Grace" and "The Lord's Prayer." The congregation sang "Joy to the World."

Janet Wilson was the eulogist and cross bearer was John Schimming.

Casket bearers were Gerald Johnson, Wayne Moetsch, Art Borlaug,
John R. Wilson, John G. Wilson and Ken Borger.

Burial was at the New Hampton Cemetery. The Conway Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Mabel Lovina (Halverson) Haberly was born June 24, 1900, at Mt. Sterling, Wis., the daughter of Andrew Sever and Martha (Johnson) Halverson.

Mabel worked in Decorah before her marriage to Fred Haberly April 4, 1931, in Cresco. The couple moved to New Hampton in 1936. They owned and operated Haberly's Hatchery. Their home was at 104 E. Washington St. until she moved to the New Hampton Care Center in 1996.

Mabel was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church for 60 years and also was active in the community.

Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton.

Survivors include one daughter, Janet Mae and John Wilson of Ponte Vedra, Fla.; one son, Charles Frederick and Karen Haberly of Ames; and five grandchildren.

Mabel Haberly was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Fred, who died in 1971.
