Mark Costigan

Mark Patrick Costigan, 18, of Lawler, died Friday, July 21, 2000, near New Hampton as the result of an accidental electrocution.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, July 25, at 10:30 a.m., at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Lawler, with the Rev. Marvin Salz officiating the mass.

The funeral pall will be placed on the casket by his parents, sister and brothers.

Hymns selected were "Be Not Afraid," "I Believe in the Son," "On Eagle's Wings," "The Ones I Love" and "Amazing Grace." Verda Mikota will be the organist with Harlan Mikota and Colleen Busta as vocalists.

Offertory gifts will be presented by Molly Timlin and Jesse Gebel. Lector for the mass will be Betty Benjegerdes.

Interment will be at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery with Ross Bodensteiner, Kyle Fencl, Tom Kuhn, D.J. Zajicek, Brian Carolan and Bryan Panos as casket bearers.

The Larkin-Martin-Hugeback Funeral Home of New Hampton is handling arrangements.

Visitation will be held at the church one hour before services.

Mark was born Nov. 13, 1981, in New Hampton, the son of Pat and JoAnn (Hackman) Costigan. He attended Turkey Valley Schools and was a graduate of the class of 2000.

Mark was active in baseball, football, basketball, track and also played trumpet in the jazz band. He enjoyed his model cars, snowmobiling, jet skiing at the river, the family pets and was always kept busy with school, sports and his friends.

Survivors include his parents, Pat and JoAnn Costigan of Lawler; one sister, Tracy Costigan of Iowa City; three brothers, Brad Costigan of Des Moines, and Kyle and Kurt Costigan of Lawler; paternal grandparents, Loren and Gen Costigan of Lawler; maternal grandmother Rita Hackman of Fort Atkinson; paternal great-grandmother Emma Kuennen of Lawler; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Mark Costigan was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Joan Costigan; maternal grandfather, Leo Hackman; aunts Linda Costigan and Lori Tester; and paternal great-grandparents Edward Kuennen and Jim and Ora Costigan.
