Joseph Sabelka Died Tuesday of Heart Attack
Funeral Services at Reilly Ridge Church Thursday
Joseph Sabelka, 65, of Lawler died at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Josephs Hospital of a heart attack. He was stricken early Sunday morning at his home and had not been ill previously. The body was taken from Larkin Chapel to the home early Wednesday afternoon where rosary was recited in the evening. Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the Sacred Heart Church at Reilly Ridge. The requiem high mass was conducted by the Rev. Paul Evens assisted by the Rev. Clarence Drummy and the Rev. Norbert Showalter. The parish choir sang. Burial was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery at Reilly Ridge. Paul bearers were G. A. Jirak, Wm. Hruska, Thomas Hurd, Linus Shirtley, Tony Blazek and Wm. Manderfield all of Lawler.
Joseph Sabelka, son of John and Mary Kuhn Sabelka was born Oct 31, 1888 at Zell, South Dakota. He came to the Spillville vicinity when a child and received his education in the Spillville schools. On Feb 21, 1911 he was married to Mary Adank at Spillville and they farmed in the Lawler vicinity all their life. Seven children were born to this union. Mr. Sabelka was a member of the Sacred Heart Church at Reilly Ridge. Surviving are his wife; five daughter, Mrs. Leo (Eileen) Cooney of Lawler, Mrs. Norbert (Angeline) Riehle of Jackson Junction, Mrs. Emil (Florence) Shileny of Charles City, Mrs. Lawrence (Margaret) Balk of Lawler and Mrs. Frank E. (Ethel) Mrachek of Cresco; two sons, Ervin of Lawler and Jerome at home; two sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Elizabeth) Petrick of Spillville and Mrs. Mike (Frances) Rolfes of Waucoma; six brothers, George, John, Ed and Phil of Lawler, Mike and Gust of Spillville and 15 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
