JOSEPH ECKEOROD DEAD.

Passes Suddenly Aaway at His Horne 0n Wednesday.

The announcement of thE death of Joseph Eckenrod on Wednesday evening came as a flash of lightning from a clear sky. On Tuesday Mr. Eckenrod was in New Hampton and apparently in his usual health. He was taken violently ill that night, and death followed on Wednesday at four o'clock.

Joseph Eckenrod was a native of Pennsylvania, born July 7, 1837; at Carroltown. He was married in 1861 to Susan Miller at Carroltown, and in 1876 he came with his family to Iowa and located on the farm, which has since been the home, in Richland township. He was a thrifty, honest and conscientious man who loved his family and humanity, a man who honors and blesses the community in which he lives. His death is a matter of regret among his neighbors and his family mourn him deeply.

Mr. Eckenrod was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic church in this city and was a consistent christian. He is survived by his wife and ten children. The children are Michael, Edward, Elmer, Bennie, of Richland township; Frank, of Butler county; Will, of Dubuque; Charles, of Cedar Falls; James, of Fredericksburg; Mrs. Emma Jenn, of North Washington, and Tillie Eckenrod, of Britt. The funeral was held Friday morning from St. Joseph's church in this city, and a large number of neighbors and friends were in attendance to do honor to his memory.
