IONIA MAN DROWNED.
Elliott Mow loses His Life While Swimming in the Cedar River.
A sad drowning accident happened near Ionia last Friday. Elliott Mow a resident of that town, accompanied by his nephew, Wesley Mow who lives Minnesota and was visiting his uncle, went out to the Little Cedar a few miles from town for a swim. The uncle undressed and went into the water first, but had been in only it few minutes when with a cry he began to sink. His nephew on the bank was a poor swimmer and knew be would be unable to save the drowning man in that way, so be procured a long pole and pushed it out to him. His uncle grasped the pole, but was too far gone to save himself by it and sank for the last time. The water was but about eight feet deep where he was drowned and Mow was a good swimmer, so it is very likely that he was seized with a cramp.
The nephew ran for assistance when he saw that there was no chance to save Mow and the body was taken out after having been in the water but an hour. The grief of the young man over the death of his uncle was something pitiable. He felt that as it was for his entertainment and pleasure that Mow had taken him swimming his relative's death was in a large measure caused by him. He is a student and had come to Ionia to spend his vacation, but it had proven a sad one already. He certainly is entitled to the sympathy of all in his sorrow.
The deceased was thirty seven years cold and had been a resident of Ionia for a long time. He was unmarried and had always lived with his parents. The funeral was held on Monday and the body taken to Nashua for burial.
