OBITUARY

DIED. — At Rochester, Minn. Oct. 17, 1901, Mrs. Elizabeth Ries, wife of Peter Ries, aged 57 years.

Deceased was born in Germany in 1844, came to the United States with her parents in 1855 and located in Dubuque county where she lived until her marriage to Peter Ries in 1869, since which time the family has lived on the farm near North Washington. She was the mother of eleven children, eight of whom survive her and with the father mourn her death. She Is olso survived by her mother, two brothers and two sisters, Mrs. Peter Maires of North Washington, Mrs. John Maires of Dyersville, Mrs. Nick Hentges of Washington township and Mrs. Susan Naber of Carroll county, all of whom were present at the funeral which was held Saturday morning from the Roman Catholic church in North Washington, the Rev. Father Probst, her pastor, conducting the solemn services.

Mrs. Ries has been in poor health for the past two years. During this time all that local medical skill could do toward restoring her to health was done. A few days ago she was taken to Rochester to the hospital for treatment and for a surgical operation. The operation was performed but the disease had made such inroads that her depleted constitution failed to withstand the shock and death followed it short time after.

She was a kind motherly women and was loved by her children and by those who knew her. Her death falls heavily upon the hearts of her near and dear I ones and the sympathy of a large circle of friends will be theirs in this hour of their great affliction.
