DIED-At the family residence in this city, Saturday, Sept, 14, 1901, Mrs. Peter Blankenheim, of diabetes, aged 60 years.
Louise Schlick was born in Prussia, Dec 25, 1831. She came to America with her parents when 13 years old, the family settled in Chicago and later in Dubuque county. October 25 she was united in marriage with Peter Blankenheim and the young people began their married life at Luxenburg, Iowa.
About thirty-six years ago they came to this country and purchased a farm 6 miles northwest of this city. Hero they resided until six years ago when they came to this city and built their home, hoping to enjoy many days of quiet town life. Their son, Joe, now occupies the home farm. Mrs. Blankenheim had been in railing health for years. Her last severe illness dates back to last October when she was taken to her bed and has since been a constant sufferer. The best medical aid obtainable was constantly at hand but their
science availed naught. The awful consciousness that death only paused and that its coming was inevitable, forced itself upon the unwilling minds of the watchers at her bedside.Mrs. Blankenheim was a woman beloved by all for her many christian virtues. She was kind and generous to a fault and when well was ever among the first, to attend wherever there was sickness or sorrow or affliction of auy kind. Her bereaved family, though now beyond the years of childhood, will long continue to miss her as a fond and devoted mother, a wise and prudent councellor. Her children surviving her are: Mrs. Peter Zimmer of McCook, Neb., Henry of Glendive. Mont., Mrs. Theodore Schmitt of Holy Cross, Ia., Sister Mary Delphine of Franciscan Order of Dubuque, Mrs. H. Adams, Buchanan, Mich., Mrs. Tony Konzen of Holy Cross and Joe who occupies the home farm and Mrs. F. N. Lentz and Miss Anna of this city. The latter was her mother's constant attendant at her bedside during her long illness. The children were all present at the funeral except Sister Delphine and Mrs. Zimmer who were unable to attend. They were here to see their mother last March.
The funeral was held from St. Mary's Catholic church yesterday morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. B. H. Forkenbrook officiating. A long funeral cortege made the sad journey to St. Mary's cemetery where mourning relatives and friends paid their last tribute of love and respect to the memory of one who was blessed with all the virtues which makes life noble and elevating.
