Obituary of Mr Charles Cochran

Charles Cochran was born in Kilpt. Scotland, in the year 1817. He was converted during his young manhood and united with the Presbyterian church. In the year 1852 he was united in marriage to Miss Isabel Whitelaw, at Pirth, Scotland. In tHAt same year they emigrated to America, settling in Chicago.

After a residence of two years the home was changed to Aurora, I11., where two years were spent. Returning to Chicago for two years, the home wes changed to Prairie du Chein, Wisconsin. Thirty-three years ago Mr Cochran came to New Hampton, settling in Jacksonville township on the farm some eight miles northeast of town, where they resided until a few months ago.

To this home was given six children, four sons and two daughters. Death has come into the home twice before, once a number of years ago, taking one of the sons in early infancy, and again a few weeks ago, when we laid to rest the beloved mother and companion. He is survived by his five children, Mr. James Cochran and Mr. William Cochran, of Millbank, S D , Mrs. Dudley Sommerville of EIMA. Mr. Oliver Cochran of New Hampton, and Mrs. William Bunston of Elma, all of whom were present on this occasion, with the exception of Mrs. Bunston.

The one whom we have met to lay away to rest today possessed a remarkable knowledge of the Bible. His favorite books were the Gospel of John, the Prophecy of Isaiah, and the Psalms. Much of the last few years has been
spent in the study of the scriptures.

As a neighbor we all have many words of praise to utter. He was a man to
be admired for his sterling qualities of worth. One would always find in him
examples of the noble qualities of a strong character. Our brother has
been in failing health for many months. Upon last Wednesday at the hour of
230 p.m. be passed out of this life. From what he has often told us we
feel confident he possessed a hope of eternal life through the mercies of the
Savior.

"Beyond those chilling and gloomy skies,
Beyond death's cloudy portal,
There is a land where beauty never dies,
And love becomes immortal."

W. P. C.
