Word was received here Saturday to the effect that Ray Bowers living at New Hampton, had committed suicide by shooting himself sometime during the previous night, he being found dead in the barn Saturday morning about 5 o’clock. No reason is known for the act, unless it was temporary insanity, the death of his father and brother both occurring in the same manner during the past two years. Mrs. W. R. Owen and sister Miss Mattie Bowers, and Walt Bowers left Saturday afternoon for New Hampton to remain until after the funeral.

Suicide at New Hampton
New Hampton, Ia., Aug 9.—Ray Bowers, an expert electrician, who worked in the telephone and electric lighting plant here, committed suicide this morning by shooting himself in the right temple. He was found by his mother near the barn near his home quite dead. He was about 23 years old and was engaged to be married. No cause is known for the rash act, but, as his father and an elder brother also took their own lives, it is believed to be a case of hereditary insanity.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he is buried in the New Hampton Cemetery and was born May 1, 1880 and died August 8, 1902.
