Arthur "Huck" Eugene Ackley, 80, New Hampton, died Tuesday, March 13, 2001 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo after a brief illness.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 17 at First Baptist Church in New Hampton with Rev. Jeff Scherer officiating. Charlotte Markle will be organist and accompany Michael Ackley singing "Amazing Grace , "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "Just As I Am".

Burial will be in the New Hampton Cemetery with military honors conducted by the New Hampton American Legion and VFW Posts. Grandsons, Jeff and William Pratt, Mike and Mark Ackley, Jim, Bob, Tim and Terry Rethamel will serve as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be granddaughters, Jennifer Tiddens, Susie Reynolds, Barb Weeks and Lynnette Rauch.

Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Friday, March 16 at Conway Funeral Home in New Hampton and an hour prior to services at the church.

Arthur Eugene Ackley was born Sept. 19, 1920 in Marble Rock, the son of Harrison and Gertrude (Castle) Ackley. He graduated from Marble Rock High School in 1936. On March 4, 1940, Arthur was united in marriage with Mona Mae Evans. The couple first lived in the Rockford/Marble Rock area until they moved three miles east of New Hampton in 1951. In 1957 they moved to their present home in New Hampton. Arthur served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He then farmed for Paul Hassman, was employed at Vern's DX Station and S&S Firestone until his retirement in 1986. Arthur was a member of the First Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, embroidering and collecting antique dishes.

Surviving are his wife, Mona, New Hampton; one son, Harold Lee (Pat) Ackley, Fredericksburg; two daughters, Karen (Wm. Jordan) Pratt, Soddy Daisy, TN and Pennie (Eldon) Rethamel, Fredericksburg; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Roger, Chillicothe, IL and Charlie, Dubuque; two sisters, Beverly Woods, Portland, OR and Margaret Hurd, Nashua.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a great-grandson, Mitchell Joseph Rethamel in 1992; four sisters, Erma Snavely, Thelma Hayungs, Wilma Marion and Henrietta Meek.
