LITTLE TURKEY - Ervin "Shorty" "Kovac" Shores, 76, Little Turkey, died Tuesday, Jan. 11 at his home of natural causes.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 13 at Hugeback's Protivin Funeral Home, with Rev. Allen Schmitt of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Protivin, presiding. Marlene Pecinovsky was organist. Interment was in the Jerico Lutheran Church Cemetery with Gerald Tieskotter, John Polashek, Dale Throndson, Wavne Throndson, Donny Fisher and Norb Busta as pallbearers. #
Visitation was 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12 at the funeral home and also an hour prior to the services on Thursday.
Ervin was born near Little Turkey on July 18, 1923, the only child of Edd and Josephine (Kupka) Shores. He attended Utica #6 Country School. In June 1952, he married Swede Ronnei at the Little Brown Church in the Vale, Nashua. The couple lived in Protivin for a year, then moved to the farm where he was raised. Ervin began farming in 1953 and continued through 1970, at which time he went to work for the Chickasaw County Secondary Roads. He retired from the county in 1987. Ervin enjoyed fishing, hunting, his neighbors and friends. Throughout his life he was known as "Shorty" to some and "Kovac" to others.
Survivors include his wife, Swede; several nieces and nephews; an aunt, Clara Houdek, New Hampton.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
