NEW HAMPTON - Mary Ellen Griffin, 94, New Hampton, died Wednesday, April 9 at Mercy Medical Center, New Hampton, of natural causes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 24 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, New Hampton, with Rev. Carl Schmitt and Rev. Peter Bodensteiner con-celebrating. Placing the pall on the casket will be her daughter and son-in-law. Lector will be John Reicks and the offertory gifts are to be presented by her grande-children. Organist Ann Bennett will accompany the St. Joseph Resurrection Choir. Hymn selections include "On Eagle's Wings", "Blest Are They", V'I Am The Bread Of Life'1 and "Joyful, Joyful".
Burial is in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Lawler, with Bud Kestel, Jerry Praska, Dan Speicher, Charles Burke, John Reicks and Tom Praska as pallbearers.
Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Sunday, April 23 at, Larkin-Martin-Hugeback Funeral Home, New Hampton, where there will be a 4 p.m. Rosary and a 6:30 p.m. Parish Scripture Service and also an hour prior to services at the church.
Mary Ellen Griffin was born April 6, 1906 near Jerico, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Norton) O'Hollearn. She attended St. Joseph Elementary School and New Hampton High School. Mary taught for 13 years in rural New Hampton. On Aug. 24,1940, she married John Griffin at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. They lived on the Griffin farm between New Hampton and Lawler until John's death, at which time Mary moved to New Hampton. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Altar and Rosary Society and was a charter member of the TNT Club. Mary was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed sewing for her family.
Surviving are one daughter, Margaret (John) Lynch, Sterling, IL; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Elizabeth McBride, New Hampton.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband John on June 14,1982; one sister, Evelyn O'Byrne; three brothers, Edward O'Holleam in infancy, Joseph and William O'Hollearn.
