LAWLER~ Mark Patrick Costigan, 18, Lawler, died Friday, July 21 near New Hampton as the result of an accidental electrocution.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, July 25 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Lawler with Rev. Marvin Salz celebrating the mass. The funeral pall was placed on the casket by his parents, sister and brothers. Hymns selected were "Be Not Afraid, "I Believe In The Son", "On Eagles Wings", "The Ones I Love" and "Amazing Grace". Verda Mikota was the organist with Harlan Mikota and Colleen Busta as vocalists. Offertory gifts were presented by Molly Timlin and Jesse Gebel. Lector for the mass was Betty Benjegerdes.

Interment was in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery with Ross Bodensteiner, Kyle Fencl, Tom Kuhn, D.J. Zajicek, Brian Carolan and Bryan Panos as pallbearers.

Visitation was 3-9 p.m. Monday, July 24 at Larkin-Martin-Hugeback Funeral Home, New Hampton where there was a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. parish scripture service. Further visitation was an hour prior to the funeral at the church.

Mark was born Nov. 13,1981 in New Hampton, the son of Pat and JoAnn (Hackman) Costigan.

He attended Turkey Valley Schools and was a graduate of the Class of 2000. Mark had several part-time jobs and had plans for enrollment at UNI this fall. He was active in baseball, football, basketball, track and also played trumpet in the Jazz Band. He enjoyed model cars, snowmobiling, jetskiing at the river, the family pets and was always kept very busy with school, sports and his friends.

Survivors include his parents: Pat and JoAnn Costigan, Lawler; one sister, Tracy Costigan, Iowa City; three brothers, Brad Costigan, Des Moines, Kyle and Kurt Costigan, Lawler; paternal grandparents, Loren and Gen Costigan, Lawler; maternal grandmother, Rita Hackman, t. Atkinson; paternal greatgrandmother, Emma Kuennen, Lawler; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Preceding him in death were his paternal grandmother, Joan Costigan; maternal grandfather, Leo Hackman; aunts, Linda Costigan and Lori Tester; paternal great-grandparents, Edward Kuennen, Jim and Ora Costigan.
