Karla Kay (Eick) Boyd, 52

WESTCHESTER, IL ~ Karla Kay (Eick) Boyd, 52, Westchester, IL, and formerly of Fredericksburg, died as a result of a single car accident two miles east of Frederika, Saturday afternoon, Aug. 5.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 9 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Frederika with Pastor Miles Renaas officiating. Karla's body was donated to the Department of Anatomy at the University of Iowa. There will be no visitation.

Karla was born on Aug. 23, 1947 at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, the daughter of Herbert R. and Eldora (Waschkat) Eick. She was baptized at St. John's U.C.C. Siegel and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Frederika. She graduated from Tripoli High School in 1965 and then attended Airline School in Omaha, NE. Karla then moved to Waterloo, where she worked several different jobs. She attended Upper Iowa University, Fayette, graduating in May of 1988 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. Karla moved to Illinois 12 years ago, and for the past three years was the Director of Finance at the Village of Lyons. On July 28, 2000 she graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison after completing her classes in the Advanced Government Finance Institute.

Karla was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Westchester, She loved the outdoors, had made 162 jumps skydiving, raced in the 19/2 National Snowmobile Championships, ran the Chicago MaratHon five times, received the Southern Cross Award for the National Ski Patrol in 2000 and made the 2002 National Ski Patrol for the U.S. Olympics in Salt Lake City, UT.

Survivors are her parents, Herbert and Eldora Eick, Fredericksburg; one sister and her husband, Marilyn and Bob McCahen, Waterloo; one brother, Larry Eick, Glendale, AZ and several aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding her in death was her sister, Shirley Eick and brother, Darrell Eick.

A memorial fund will be established at a later date.
