Obituary for Gene Francis Gorman

Gene Francis Gorman age 59 of Rochester, Minnesota, and formerly of New Hampton, Iowa, died Monday, March 28, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton after a long, hard fought battle with cancer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Holy Family Parish (206 N. Broadway) in New Hampton with Rev. Mark Osterhaus officiating the Mass. Organist for the service will be Ann Bennett. Donna Rosonke will be the lector and Emily and Debbie Gorman will present the offertory gifts.

Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery following the service. Bob Rosonke, Glenn Nystel, Bill Lowe, Steve Hruska, Jason Gilbert and Chris Gorman will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may greet the family from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2016 at Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton, where a 7:00 p.m. scripture service will take place. Visitation continues an hour prior to the Mass on Saturday at church.

Gene Francis Gorman was born October 28, 1956 in New Hampton, Iowa, the son of Donald and Lorna (Rosonke) Gorman. Gene attended St. Josephs Community School until eighth grade when he went to New Hampton High School and was part of the graduating class of 1974.

After high school, he went to work for John Deere in Waterloo before taking a job with IBM in Rochester, MN. After many years at IBM he started working at Kemps and was a forklift driver.

Gene loved the outdoors. He could be found doing many outdoor activities including fishing, trapping, turtle hunting and deer hunting. He will always be remembered for his patience. He could sit all day and not catch a fish. As long as he was outside relaxing, he enjoyed it. All of his nieces and nephews held a special place in his heart. He would always bring his nieces and nephews gifts, stuffed animals, or help them fix things.

Gene is survived by his mother, Lorna Gorman of New Hampton, Iowa; four brothers,, Wayne Gorman of New Hampton, Iowa, Gary (Julie) Gorman of New Hampton, Iowa, Curtis (Andrea) Gorman of Huntersville, NC, Dave Gorman of Charlotte, NC; one sister Ruth (Alan) Gilbert of Ionia, Iowa; three nephews Jason Gilbert of Clear Lake, Iowa, Chris Gorman of New Hampton, Iowa, Cody Gorman of Huntersville, NC; five nieces, Jenny (Chris) Hovey of Denver, Iowa, Christine (Dan) Venem of New Hampton, Iowa, Debbie Gorman of New Hampton, Iowa, Emily Gorman of New Hampton, Iowa, Kelly Nearhood of Huntersville, NC; five great-nephews Owen Hovey, Elliott Hovey, Brayton Hovey, Ashton Venem and Kale Venem; and special friend Jenny Steffey.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Gorman.
