Obituary for Eugene F. "Gene" Goss

Eugene F. "Gene" Goss age 66 of Lawler died Sunday, March 27, 2016, at his home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 31, 2016, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Lawler with Rev. Nick March celebrating the Mass. The placing of the pall will be Gene's brothers and sisters. Lector for the service will be Joe Scally. Presenting the offertory gifts will be Cheryl Ostrander and Jan Summers. Organist and vocalist will be Bob Huinker.

Interment will be in the church cemetery with Nick Summers, Amanda Summers, Chris Goss, Michelle VanWinkel, Robert Goss, Gereon Lake, Shea Goss,Kelli Goss, Megan Mertes and Sara Ellingson as pallbearers.

Friends may greet the family 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Lawler where there will be a 3:45 p.m. Rosary and a 6:45 p.m. parish scripture service. Visitation continues an hour prior to the Mass at the church on Thursday.

Arrangements are with Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in Lawler.

Eugene Francis Goss was born February 8, 1950, in New Hampton, Iowa, the son of Joe and Signora (Attleson) Goss. He received his education in Lawler and was a 1968 graduate of the Turkey Valley High School. Gene worked retail in Champaign, IL, for four years and for Kraft Foods another 15 years before returning to live in Lawler in 1987. He cared for his parents all the years preceding theirs deaths.

Gene also worked at Tri-Mark in New Hampton and due to health care issues retired after 24 years. He suffered from End Stage Renal Disease that was diagnosed at the age of 17. In his free time he enjoyed hunting, trapping and fishing.

Survivors include four brothers, Bill (Maureen) Goss of Sumner, Jim (Teresa) Goss of Columbus, OH, Michael Goss of Scottsdale, AZ, Roland (Claudia) Schmitt of Germany, three sisters, Cheryl (Vern) Ostrander of Des Moines, Jan Summers of Lawler, Sue (Jim) Muth of Scottsdale, AZ; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son in childbirth in 1984, his parents and a brother, Ed Nunes.
