Obituary for Lugene Treloar

Lugene Treloar, age 93, of Fredericksburg, Iowa, died Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at Hillcrest Home in Sumner, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 16, 2016, at Hillcrest Baptist & Brethren Church, Fredericksburg with Pastor Todd Yeaton presiding. Interment will be held in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg.

Friends may greet the family 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday, August 15, 2016, at Hugeback - Johnson Funeral Home in Fredericksburg. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Lugene Anna Treloar was born January 25, 1923, in Fredericksburg, Iowa, the daughter of Reno and Vina (Leitch) Bravener. She attended country school in rural Fredericksburg and was a 1940 graduate of Fredericksburg High School. Lugene then enrolled at Upper Iowa University earning a teaching certificate.

She went on to teach in a one room schoolhouse in rural Fredericksburg from 1941-1946. During her time in high school, she met Robert Treloar. He then left for the service and they began dating when he returned home. The couple was united in marriage on May 9, 1946, at First Baptist Church in Fredericksburg. To this union, two sons; Robert and Roger were born.

Lugene stayed home on the farm taking care of their two sons. She was the fabric of the family that kept everything together. She tended to the home and took great pride in her garden to provide for her family. Whatever tasks needed to be done for the family as a whole, Lugene would see to it they were completed.

As her children entered high school, Lugene decided to resume her collegiate studies. She enrolled at Upper Iowa University and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1972. Lugene worked at Fredericksburg Elementary School for 26 years before she retired.

Lugene enjoyed playing cards, quilting, playing the piano, and was a remarkable seamstress. She was an avid gardener who raised many species of flowers. She and Bob were antique collectors and preserved many family heirlooms. She was an active member of the Hillcrest Baptist & Brethren Church in Fredericksburg. Family was extremely important to Lugene, and she enjoyed spending as much time with them as possible.

Lugene is survived by two sons, Robert (Linda) Treloar of Fountain Hills, Arizona, Roger (Suzanne) Treloar of Solon, Iowa; three grandchildren, Chad Treloar of Iowa City, Ali Treloar of Haiti, and Laura (Steven) Grieg of Ames.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert in 2008; granddaughter, Joy Treloar in 2013; one brother in infancy; and one sister Holly Oswalt in 2016.
