Obituary for Marilyn Cecilia Elenz
Marilyn Elenz, age 77, of New Hampton, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2015 at Lynn Haven Rehab and Healthcare in New Hampton.
Marilyn Cecilia Elenz was born on September 1, 1938 to Walter and Cecilia (Schupanitz) Mishak in Alta Vista, Iowa. She attended school at St. William’s School in Alta Vista, where she graduated from high school in 1956.
Marilyn was united in marriage to Leo Elenz on May 1, 1957 at St. Bernard’s Church in Alta Vista. The couple made their home in North Washington, Iowa, and later moved to New Hampton where they owned and operated the L-Kove Bar and Grill for several years. Leo and Marilyn moved to Cordes Junction, Arizona, where they built and operated the Cordes Junction Motel until 1995.
They then retired and moved back to New Hampton where Marilyn has lived and worked ever since.
She enjoyed baking, cooking, walking, exercising, reading, playing cards and games with family and friends, choir, community service of all types, travel and spending time with her family. She was a member of Holy Family Parish, Catholic Daughters of America, Rosary Society, Holy Family Choir, RCIA and the Birthday Club.Marilyn is survived by her children Lori (Roger) Deutsch of Prescott Valley, AZ, Jeff (Candace) Elenz of Waverly, Iowa, Tony (Nancy) Elenz of Eagan, Minnesota, Lisa Elenz of Boise, Idaho, Keith (Karla) Elenz of New Hampton, Iowa, and Chris (Nancy) Elenz of Kempner, Texas; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Dolores Felder of Alta Vista and Jeanne Hilsman of New Hampton; brother Gerald (Marilee) Mishak of New Hampton; numerous nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law Rita Cummings of Evansdale, Iowa, Rose Meirick of Jesup, Iowa, Margaret Faber of Algona, Iowa, Tillie Havlik of Elma, Iowa, Katie Schmit of New Hampton, and Alice Kintzle of Waterloo, Iowa; and brother-in-law Mike Elenz of Waterloo, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Cecilia Mishak, and her husband Leo on February 20, 2012.
