NASHUA - Rex Dean Fairholm Sr., 65, of Nashua, died Saturday, May 2, 2009 at home.
He was born Oct. 13, 1943, in Waterloo, son of Don H. and Lola Reed Fairholm. He married Marilyn Ungs on April 11, 1964, at Sacred Heart Church, Waterloo.
He graduated in 1960 from Waterloo East High School and served in the Iowa National Guard for eight years.
He worked for Pole Sprayers, for Collins Radio as a machinist, and Steitzer Auto and Rapids Chevrolet as a salesman. He then started his own carpet business, then went to Orkin Exterminating, retiring after 12 years as district manager for the Kansas City district. Mr. Fairholm and his wife started their own pizza business, Bestline Pizza, in Nashua.
Survived by his wife; three sons, Rex Jr. (Karon) of Jacksonville, Fla., Daniel of Charles City and Donald (Brandy) of Greene; a daughter, Angela (Jon) Day of Charles City; three sisters, Doneta (Bill) Etter, Twilah Steiles and Kalha Krueger; 15 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Yvonne Bowden.
Memorial services: 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, Nashua, with private family burial in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, rural Clarksville, at a later date. He donated his body to the Mayo Foundation, Rochester, Minn. Public visitation from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
