NASHUA - Maynard Melvin Biekert, 78, of Nashua, died Tuesday, May 17, 2005, at the Waverly Health Center, Waverly, of cancer.

He was born March 5, 1927, on the family farm in Butler County, son of Otto and Linda Schluter Biekert. He married Norma Doris Hansen on Dec. 31, 1949, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua.

Mr. Biekert served in the U.S. Army. He worked for Clyde Kings Elevator, Charles City, which later changed to Case Implement. He then farmed for 53 years.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Bruce (Nancy) of Nashua, Beryl (Jan) of Waverly and Neal (Dianna) of Whiting; a daughter, Cheryl (Denis) Shilling of Cedar Falls; seven grandchildren: three sisters, Anna (Ervin) Ficken of Melbourne, Esther (Leonard) Griner of Bristow and Dorothy Sutcliffe of Plainfield; and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Biekert.

Preceded in death by a sister, Viola Iserman; two brothers, Lawrence and Arnold "Mike;" and two brothers-in-law, Robert Sutcliffe and Paul Iserman.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, with burial in Horton Cemetery, rural Waverly. Military rites will be conducted by Nashua Veterans of Foreign Wars Post. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, Nashua.
