LAWLER -- Barbara Jean Meyers, 81, of rural Lawler, died at home Tuesday, March 18, 2014.
She was born June 29, 1932, near Ionia, daughter of Marion and Bernice Cushing Cagley. She married Jerry Meyers on June 17, 1954, at St. Boniface Church, Ionia.
Barbara graduated from Ionia schools in 1950 and then attended the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, until 1952, receiving her teaching certificate. She taught school in Dumont until 1954. She and her husband owned and operated Meyers Locker and Superette from 1954 to 1988. Barbara returned to UNI in 1983 and received her bachelor's degree in 1985. She was a substitute teacher in the area for several years. She was a driver for Zip’s Truck Equipment for seven years.
Survived by her husband; three sons, Mark (Cindy) and Craig, both of Aurora, Colo., and Gary (Janice) of Charles City; two daughters, Margie Fuiten of Bloomington, Ill., and Carol (Chris) Holmes of Arvada, Colo.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Shirley (John) VanAndell of Denver, Colo., Gwen Schroeder of Texas City, Texas, Maxine Cagley of Waterloo and Charlotte Markle of New Hampton; and a brother, Marion “Bub” (Esther) Cagley of Ionia.
Preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Brian; and a brother, Robert Cagley.
Services: 1 p.m. Saturday at Ionia Funeral Home, with burial in St. Boniface Cemetery, Ionia. Visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with a 7 p.m. scriptural wake service, and for an hour before services Saturday.
