Funeral services for Louie Fencl, 99, of Protivin, were held Monday, August 12 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church i n Protivin. Rev. Allan Schmitt presided. Interment was in Holy Trinity Cemetery. Balik Funeral Home of Decorah was in charge of arrangements. Louie died Wednesday, August 7, 1996, at his home in Protivin following a short illness.
Louis was born May 20, 1897 in Protivin to Frank and Marie (Pecinovsky) Fencl. He attended Protivin schools.
On September 25, 1934, he married Alice Lukes at Holy Trinity Church. He and Alice and their children lived on the family farm east of Protivin until 1968 when they moved to Protivin after retirement.
Louie was a member of Catholic Workmen and the Knights of Columbus, and was on the cemetery board for over 40 years.
He is survived by two daughters: Mary Ann Andera of Lawler and Betty Falada of Decorah; four sons: Leonard and Victor of Calmar, Jim of Charles City, and Ernie of Protivin; 18 grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Edward of Meeker, OK and Henry of Lawler; and two sisters: Lillian O Sullivan* and Adella Larsen, both of Huntington, Long Island, NY.
Louis was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; six sisters: Elizabeth in 1894, Frances Starr, Victoria Fencl, Marie Zalen, Theresa McGrew and Betty Byram; two brothers: Charles and Rev. Leonard J. Fencl, S.J.; and two grandchildren. Lillian O'ters, and James Mille Hampton; three grandchildren.
