Cyril Albert Bouska was born February 6, 1917 in Howard County near Schley, the son of Ben J. and Nellie (Mikesh) Bouska. He attended school in Protivin and graduated from Rudolphinum High School. Following his schooling, he returned to the farm. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on April 3, 1941 and served in the European -African-Middle Eastern Theatre for the biggest part of his tour of duty. He was discharged on July 18, 1945. Upon returning home, he returned to farming.
On June 4, 1946 he married Catherine E. Courtney in St. Bridget's Catholic Church at Bluffton. They raised their family on the farm, even though they wintered in Florida or Oklahoma.

Cyril helped to start the Protivin Fire Department and was instrumental in purchasing the first truck. He enjoyed woodworking in his spare time, but seemed to have little of that.
