Funeral services for Leonard Kleiss of Fredericksburg were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 11 at Peace United Church of Christ in Fredericksburg with Pastor Laura Hucke officiating.
Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Fredericksburg. Pallbearers were: Gene Kleiss, Doug Kleiss, Steve Kleiss, Darren Bass, Ryan Erickson, Ross Erickson, Justin Laursen, and Amanda Acres. Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Leonard, 88, died Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at the Hillcrest Home in Sumner.
Leonard Kleiss was born May 8, 1916 in Chickasaw County, west of Fredericksburg, the son of Adolf and Bertha (Bartelt) Kleiss. He attended rural country school.
On February 12, 1939, he married Viola Kirchmann at the Spring Fountain Lutheran Church, west of Sumner. They farmed in the rural Fredericksburg area. In 1992 they moved into Fredericksburg.
He enjoyed farming, fishing and traveling. Leonard moved into the Assisted Living unit in the Hillcrest Nursing home in Sumner.
He is survived by his wife Viola; one son: Stan of Clintonville, WI; three daughters: Bonnie Erickson of Readlyn, Diane Aldrich of Tuscon AZ, and Becky Bank of Ft. Dodge; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Leonard was preceded in death by one son: Bill; his parents; four brothers: Ewald, Herbert, Arnold, and Henry; and three sisters: Clara Whitnable, Edna Burmaster, and Agnes Barth.
