Obituary for Ella L. Greene--
Ella Greene peacefully passed away March 27, 2014, to join Harry and the Lord in Heaven. She was residing at the 11th Street Chautauqua Care Center Charles City, Iowa.
A private burial will be held in Greenwood Cemetery, Nashua. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Ella, the daughter of William and Elli Lalk, was born November 19, 1919, in Flacksmeer, Germany. She came to the United States on September 17, 1923 through Ellis Island. The family settled in Columbus. Nebraska. She attended school in Shell Creek, Nebraska, and the family moved to Iowa in 1939.
Ella married Harry L. Greene in Springfield, Missouri, on May 24, 1941. After living in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and the Sumner, Iowa, area for ten years, Ella and Harry moved to Nashua, Iowa, and spent the rest of her life there. She worked at the Broom Factory in Cedar Falls and she worked at Ben Franklin, and Miller’s Grocery in Nashua for several years. Her greatest experience was serving as a foster grandparent for 17 years. She was so proud of the students she served and families she met.
Ella was a kind, sweet, prudent, loving lady and one who was ready and willing to help. She was active at St. John’s Lutheran Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher. Ella enjoyed gardening (flowers were her specialty), baking (known for pie and custard making), and traveling to visit her sons and their families.
Survivors include, Son, Lawrence (Sonja) of Scottsdale AZ, Son, Donald (Myrna) Sun Lakes, Arizona, three grandchildren, Brian (Pam) Greene of Carmel Indiana, Bradley (Shari) Greene of Scottsdale, Arizona, Michelle (Joe) Gribben of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; seven great-grandchildren, Heather (Tony) Christofaro, Jordan (Kelly) Greene, Katelynn, Kelsea and Jarrod Greene, Amanda and Matt Gribben; two great-great grand children, Jackson and Carter Greene.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Harry.
