Obituary for Leo R. Gruenberg--

Leo R. Gruenberg, age 92, of Fredericksburg, Iowa, died Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton.

Prayer services will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday April 5, 2014, at the Hugeback - Johnson Funeral Home in Fredericksburg with internment at Rose Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers are Andrea Ludwig, Dale Ludwig, Jamie DeVries, Jared DeVries, Ryan Gruenberg and Nathan Gruenberg. Honorary pallbearers are Taylor Diehl, Jaylen DeVries, Easton DeVries and Coy Gruenberg.

Friends may greet the family 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. Saturday April 5, 2014, at the Hugeback - Johnson Funeral Home in Fredericksburg.

Leo Richard Gruenberg was born June 16, 1921 in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, the son of Richard and Anna (Schulz) Gruenberg. He lived in Chippewa Falls until the age of seven when his family traveled by train to Fredericksburg where he lived for the remainder of his life. He attended Boyd Country School in his younger years.

After school he operated Schutte Service and worked as a milk hauler for Farmers Butter & Dairy and AMPI for many years. He married his wife of 62 years, Betty Churchill, on February 9, 1952 in Austin, Minnesota. Leo enjoyed collecting clocks, feeding the squirrels, and working on his model trains.

Leo is survived by his wife, Betty of Fredericksburg; four sons, Dan Gruenberg of Denver, CO, David Gruenberg of Clear Lake, Iowa, Mark Gruenberg of New Hampton, Curt (Kathy) Gruenberg of Fredericksburg; four grandchildren, Andrea (Dale) Ludwig of Clear Lake, Iowa, Jamie (Jared) DeVries of Clear Lake, Iowa, Ryan (Marissa) Gruenberg of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Nathan Gruenberg of Cedar Falls, Iowa; four great-grandchildren, Taylor Diehl of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Jaylen DeVries of Clear Lake, Iowa, Easton DeVries of Clear Lake, Iowa, Coy Gruenberg of Fort Dodge, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Beverly Hyman of Oelwein, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Anna Gruenberg; two brothers, Alvin Gruenberg and Robert Gruenberg; two sisters, Atensa Gruenberg and Ruth Pleggenkuhle; two brothers-in-law, Lewis Churchill and Roy Pleggenkuhle; one sister-in-law Alice Gruenberg; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Elmer and Ellen Churchill.
