Obituary for Robert N. Davis--
Robert N. Davis, age 93, of Fredericksburg, Iowa, died Thursday April 3, 2014, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 7, 2014, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Fredericksburg with Pastor Ronnie Koch presiding. Interment with military honors will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg.
Friends may greet the family from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home in Fredericksburg. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
If so desired, memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or the Fredericksburg Amvets.
Robert Noal Davis was born December 15, 1920, in Nashua, Iowa, the son of Noal and Mildred (Shoop) Davis. He received his education in Fredericksburg and graduated from the Fredericksburg High School in 1938. During Robert’s teenage years, he worked for Hewitt Brothers and the local gas station. He entered the United States Army on November 4, 1942. He trained at the Bombardier School in Odessa, Texas, and Wendover Field in Utah. Robert served with 20th Army Air Force on Tinian in the Marianas and was one of the men who assembled the atomic bombs which were dropped on Japan. Robert was honorably discharged on November 16, 1945.
On June 26, 1942, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church-Richfield, rural Sumner, Iowa, Robert married Bernice L. Niewoehner. To this union three sons were born. Robert was in business with his father with Davis & Son, plumbing, heating and electrical until 1962 and was then the sole owner of Davis Electric until retiring in 1980.
He had been a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church-Richfield and St. Paul’s Lutheran church in Fredericksburg where he held several offices. He was a charter member of the Fredericksburg Amvets organizing in 1947 and a Past Commander and Finance Officer. He was also a charter member of the Fredericksburg Country Club and enjoyed traveling by car or motor home, golfing, fishing and volunteering. Robert was always helping someone with their needs. He loved time with his family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved playing cards and billiards. Following his sudden death he was a donor to the Iowa Donor Network.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice; two sons, Daryl (Virginia) Davis of Cedar Falls, Randy (Brenda) Davis of Mason City; seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and his son, Dean.
