NEW HAMPTON - Glenn Joseph Cowlishaw, 99, of New Hampton died Tuesday, March 7, 2006, at New Hampton Care Center.
He was born Sept. 30, 1906, in Dunkerton, son of Joseph Henry and Emma Ward Cowlishaw. He married Erma Yeager in 1937 in Dunkerton. She died in 1943. He then married Pauline Kolthoff in 1949, and she preceded him in death.
Mr. Cowlishaw graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1924, attended Drake University and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a teaching and coaching degree.
He began his teaching and coaching career in Dunkerton and later moved to New Hampton where he taught typing and social studies and was a coach for the basketball, football and baseball teams. In 1949 he left the school system to pursue a career in sales with Minnesota Chemical. He remained there until his retirement in 1981.
Survived by two sons, Joseph J. (Roseann) of Scio, Ore., and James J. (Kathleen) of International Falls, Minn.; a daughter, Karen M. (James) Brouillard of International Falls; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Yeoman (Erma) of Waterloo; and two sisters-in-law, Allie Cowlishaw and Wilma Yeager, both of Fairbank.
Preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Cowlishaw, in infancy; a grandson; a brother, Fearl; and two sisters, Gladys (Jim) Stringer and Ella (Jack) Barkley.
Services: 10:30 am Saturday at Holy Family Parish-St. Joseph Center, New Hampton, with inurnment in the New Hampton Cemetery. Public visitation for an hour before services Saturday at the church. Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home, New Hampton, is in charge of arrangements.
