NEW HAMPTON - Frances S. Ryder, 97, of New Hampton, died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center, New Hampton.

She was born July 7, 1908, in Independence, daughter of William and Mary Ann Michael Kayser. On Oct. 8, 1935, she married M.R. "Mike" Ryder at St. Johns Catholic Church, Independence. He died Oct. 19, 1991.

Mrs. Ryder graduated from high school in 1926. She and her husband owned and operated a grocery store in New Hampton until the late 1950s. She later worked at the New Hampton school cafeteria, Ace Hardware and Wessels Jewelry Store.

Survivors include two daughters, Shirley (Dale) Beck of New Hampton and Eleanor (Ken) Diesburg of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; a son-in-law, Gerald McGrath of Wauwatosa, Wis.; 10 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, three stepgreat-granddaughters and a great-great-grandson.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Carole McGrath; two infant grandsons; and five brothers, Jack, Lee, Lou, Harold and Irv Kayser.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Family Parish-St. Marys Center, with burial in St. Marys Cemetery, both in New Hampton. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, New Hampton, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and 6:30 p.m. Scripture service. Visitation also 8 to 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
