Lucille Elaine Wesp was born August 8, 1922, in Fredericksburg, Iowa, the daughter of Claude and Frieda (Schuette) Wesp. She graduated from high school there in 1940 and attended Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. After college she spent one year working for the Iowa State Tax Commission. Her stint at the commission was followed by thirty four years in the employ of A.H. Blank and the family. She rose to the position of Executive Secretary to A.H. Blank. The Blank family owned and operated 100 theaters in Iowa, Illinois and Nebraska. They also built Blank Memorial Children’s Hospital and the Blank Zoo.

It was Lucille’s privilege to witness and participate in “The Glory Days” of the motion picture industry. Lucille had the opportunity to visit the major studios, hob-nob with some of the stars and even model for publicity some film wardrobes, notably one to be worn by Joan Fontaine in a movie.

After the death of A.H. Blank, Lucille felt the need of a new challenge and spent the next six years prior to retirement in 1985, at Norwest Mortgage. She was Executive Secretary to the Vice President of the mortgage arm of Norwest Bank.

She enjoyed golf, volunteer work and during her working years traveled extensively, having visited every state but Alaska. She also traveld to Europe. Lucille served on the board of The Secure Life Style Club of Bankers Trust Bank and on the board of Callanan Collection, a non-profit organization of Iowa Methodist Medical Center. This group’s function is to raise money for the care of needy elderly at the hospital. Lucille was also runner-up in a beauty contest by Junior Chamber in 1952 to select Miss Des Moines.

Survivors include her niece, Diane Murphy of Fredericksburg; nephew, Steve (Jean) Murphy of Lawrenceville, Georgia; great-nephew, Todd (Jen) Murphy of Sugarhill, Georgia.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister and brother-in-law, Helen (Fred) Murphy.
