Obituary for Irene F. Nelson--

Irene F. Nelson age 90 of Nashua, Iowa, died Friday morning, September 28, 2012, at the Bartels Retirement Community in Waverly.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 1, 2012, at the Hugeback – Johnson Funeral Home in Nashua with Pastor James Gilmore of North Grand Christian Church in Ames presiding. Interment will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, Nashua with Arthur Rippey, Randy Covey, Buddy Pyle, Donnie Snyder, Denny Snyder, and Randy Snyder serving as pallbearers.

Friends may greet the family an hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday morning.

Irene Florence Nelson was born February 17, 1922 in Powersville, Iowa, the daughter of Kurd and Henrietta (Jacobs) Kuehne. She grew up with her family on the farm. Irene moved with her family into Plainfield where her parents operated the Standard Oil gas station.

Irene graduated from the Nashua High School in 1941. Shortly after graduating she married Clifford Nelson. Cliff and Irene purchased John’s place in Horton, Iowa, and shortly after the purchase they changed the name to Cliff’s Place. Together they owned and operated the tavern for 25 years. In 1997, Irene and Cliff sold Cliff’s Place and moved into the Waverly Homes. Cliff passed away in 2004. Irene entered Bartels Lutheran Home in December of 2005.

Her lifelong interests include painting, fishing at Balsam Lake, Wisconsin, crocheting, going to the Casinos, and owning toy Chihuahua’s throughout her life.

Survivors include one niece, Judy Covey of Ames, Iowa; one nephew, Arthur (Lisa) Rippey of Longwood, Florida; one sister-in-law, Edith Luders of Ames, Iowa; five great-nephews, Buddy Pyle, Terry Pyle, Don Snyder, Denny Snyder, and Arthur Jr. Rippey; two great-nieces, Debbie Hall, and Ann Britt Rippey; seven great-great-nephews, five great-great-nieces; and one great-great-great nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clifford Nelson; one brother, Malvin Kuehne; one niece, Janice Pettit.
