Obituary for Naomi D. Natvig

Naomi Delphine (Tweit) Natvig, age 72, of Cottage Grove, Wisconsin, was called to her heavenly home by her Savior on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 2:45 AM after a courageous 14 year battle with cancer.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday October 5, 2012 at the Saude Lutheran Church, rural Lawler, Iowa, with Pastor Daniel Larson and Pastor Mark Bartels presiding.

Friends may greet the family 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Friday October 5, 2012 at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Saude Cemetery Fund or the Holy Cross Relocation Fund.

Naomi Delphine Tweit was born on February 18, 1940, in St. Peter, Minnesota, the second of six children of Rev. Milton and Delphine (Sonstegard) Tweit. She was baptized at Norseland Lutheran Church in St. Peter, Minnesota and attended Norseland Lutheran School through the eighth grade. She graduated from Bethany Lutheran High School in Mankato, Minnesota, in 1958.

Naomi married Dennis Natvig on August 29, 1959, at Saude Lutheran Church in Lawler, Iowa, and they were blessed with three sons. After living briefly in Saude, Iowa with her father after her mother was killed in a car accident, Naomi and Denny lived in Abilene, Kansas, while Denny served in the army, and then moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa.

In 1964, they moved to Mankato, Minnesota, and enjoyed many happy years there with dear friends, co-workers and fellow members of Mt.Olive Lutheran Church in Mankato. Naomi worked as an administrative assistant at AMS Supply and Graybar Electric Company and served on many civic and church committees, but entertaining family and friends was her favorite pastime.

In 1995, Naomi and Dennis retired and permanently moved to Pine River, MN and their beloved Hay Lake. They joined Christ Lutheran Church in Baxter and met many wonderful new friends. In 2011, they moved to Cottage Grove, WI, to be closer to family. They joined Holy Cross Lutheran Church.

Naomi is survived by her husband, Dennis; three sons, Craig (Sheila) Natvig of Elko, Minnesota, Jon (Cindy) Natvig of Cottage Grove, Wisconsin, Scott (Carla) Natvig of Los Angeles, Calif.; nine grandchildren: Evan, Clay, Blayne, Emily, Andrew, Aaron and Cody Natvig, John and Brad Doerr; three brothers David (Louise)Tweit of Gibbon, Minnesota, Paul (Mary Jane) Tweit of Mankatok, Minnesota, Jonathan (Dawn) Tweit of Ashville, North Carolina; two sisters, Ruth (Robert) Smith of Pine River, Minnesota, Beth (Arthur) Silverstein of San Diego, Calif.; uncle, Arvid (Marjorie) Tweit; Aunt, Terry Sonstegard and numerous dear nieces and nephews.

Naomi was preceded in death by her parents Rev. Milton and Delphine (Sonstegard) Tweit.

Special thanks to Dr. John Harris and staff of Brainerd Medical Center and Dr. Mark Burkard and staff at the UW Carbone Cancer Center for the excellent care and compassion Naomi received over the past 14 years and heartfelt appreciation to the incredible doctors, nurses and CNAs of Agrace Hospice Care in Madison, and finally to Pastor Bernt Tweit and Pastor Mark Bartels for all of you spiritual support and guidance. You are all angels on this earth. Blessed be her memory!
