Edwin W. Diesburg, age 92, of Ionia, IA died Sunday, April 17, 2011 at Cedar Health Care Facility in Charles City, IA.

Edwin William Diesburg “Eddie” was born September 19, 1918 in Ionia, the son of Theodore and Susan (Klassen) Diesburg. He attended St. Boniface School in Ionia. As a young man he worked for area farmers and gave his earnings to his parents to support the family after the Great Depression. Eddie served in the U. S. Army during World War II from 1941-1945 in the Japanese Theatre.

On May 23, 1943 he was united in marriage to Avis Spurbeck at St. Boniface Catholic Church. After Eddie’s honorable discharge from the Army in 1945 the couple moved to Ionia where he started his tank wagon and service business known as Diesburg Oil Co. Eddie was strongly associated with the Catholic Church, especially St. Boniface where he was an altar boy and carried bricks for the construction of the new church. He maintained a strong faith in God. His enjoyment came from his family, especially during holidays and summer vacation in Minnesota at Twin Lakes.

Eddie is survived by two daughters, Donna (Hut) Vass of Staunton, VA, and Marilyn (Joe) Rochford of Charles City, IA; two sons, Daniel (Rhea) Diesburg of Charlotte, NC and Kenneth (Lynn) Diesburg of De Soto, IL; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and one brother, A.J. (Wishy) Diesburg of Ionia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Avis on August 31, 1997; one daughter, Patricia Diesburg; two brothers, Cletus and Ray Diesburg and three sisters, Magdeline Eernisse, Kadie Brown and Edith Adler.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 pm on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at Ionia Funeral Home in Ionia with a 4:00 rosary and 7:00 pm scriptural wake service, and will continue at the funeral home one hour prior to the services on Wednesday.

Mass of Christian burial for Edwin will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Ionia with Fr. Mark Osterhaus celebrating. Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery at Ionia.
