Marion A. Ackley, a resident of Chickasaw County for more than 70 years, passed away at the Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City, Saturday, Jan. 22, 1944, at the advanced age of 93 years, 3 months and 1 day.
He was born in McHenry County, Illinois, on Oct. 21, 1850, the son of S. H. Ackley and Deborah Allison Ackley.
Together with his parents and brother and sister he came to Iowa, settling in Washington Township, Chickasaw County in the spring of 1873.
He was married on Jan 17, 1878, to Miss Harriette A. Stevens of New Hampton, Iowa.
They established their home on a farm near where Devon now is. To this union four children were born: Mrs. Homer Huffman of Nashua; Mrs. M. R. Huffman, deceased; Mrs. M. I. Orma, Sioux Falls, S. Dak., and Mrs. C. E. Warfeld of Juneau, Alaska, who with six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren are left to mourn their loss with many other friends and relatives.
In 1879 he and his family moved to the village of Chickasaw. While living there he helped to build the Baptist Church, of which he became a charter member.
His wife passed on to the better land, July 29, 1926, and the last years of his life were spent with his children.
Funeral services were conducted by the Chenoweth Funeral Home, Tuesday afternoon at the Baptist Church in Chickasaw. Rev. Vertz, the pastor, officiated. Rev. and Mrs. F. L. Hanscom provided the music.
Burial was made in Cedar View Cemetery at Chickasaw. Pallbearers were: John Cagley, Lyle Huffman, Ceph Huffman, Lester Fisher, Ed Green and E. Link.
