NEW HAMPTON - John W. "Jack" Rosauer Jr., 72, of New Hampton, died Thursday, April 9, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center, New Hampton.

He was born March 20, 1937, in New Hampton, son of John P. Sr. and Eva Schmitt Rosauer. On Oct. 8, 1958, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, North Washington, he married Carolyn Tenge.

He was a 1955 graduate of New Hampton High School. Mr. Rosauer was a retired carpenter of 50 years, 43 of which he was self employed. He also served the New Hampton Fire Department.

He and his wife also owned the Roller-Rink and Gobblers Knob Arcade for many years.

Survived by his wife; three sons, Craig (Patti) and Kendall, both of New Hampton, and Keith (Florida Kallashi) of Laurence Harbor, N.J.; two daughters, Karen (Roger) Knutson and Karla (Chris) Denner, both of New Hampton; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Jane (Dave) Nosbisch of Lake Summerset, Ill., and Jean Ann Rosauer of Lansing.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Parish-St. Mary's Center, New Hampton, with burial in St. Mary's Cemeter. Public visitation from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, New Hampton, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. Scripture service. Visitation also from 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

John W. Rosauer was born March 20, 1937, in New Hampton the son of John P. Sr. and Eva (Schmitt) Rosauer. He attended St. Mary’s School and was a 1955 graduate of the New Hampton High School. As a boy, Jack worked on the family farm and as a senior in high school began work in a local cabinet shop. On October 8, 1958, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in North Washington he married Carolyn Tenge. To this union five children were born.

Jack was a retired carpenter of 50 years, 43 of which he was self-employed. He was active as a scout leader and in his younger days, the New Hampton Fire Department. He helped organize the choir at St. Mary’s, began the organization of the St. Mary’s chili/soup dinner and was on the church council for several years. He was a member of the Izaak Walton League and participated in wild-game feeds.

Jack loved cooking, baking, fishing, repairing sewing machines, making wine and going for a local ride. Jack and Carolyn also owned the Roller-Rink and Gobblers Knob Arcade for many years. Jack was especially proud of his children and also took pride of his courage to overcome alcoholism, having recently received his 31 year sobriety pin.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Carolyn; three sons, Craig (Patti) Rosauer, Kendall Rosauer all of New Hampton and Keith (Florida Kallashi) Rosauer of Laurence Harbor, NJ; two daughters, Karen (Roger) Knutson and Karla (Chris) Denner all of New Hampton; mother-in-law, Magdelena Tenge of North Washington; seven grandchildren, Cody & Megan Hilsman, Stephanie Mashek, Sarah Rosauer, Kara & Cole Denner, Madison Rosauer; two great-grandchildren, Alexa Mashek and Hadleigh Hilsman; two sisters, Mary Jane (Dave) Nosbisch of Lake Summerset, IL and Jean Ann Rosauer of Lansing, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
