IONIA—Mrs. Alice Hammond, 79, died Saturday at the home of her son, Dr. Claud Hammond, at Beaumont, Tex., after a four months' illness of complications of age.

Nee Alice Feeney, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Barney Feeney, Dec. 31, 1863, at Nashua, and spent her entire life in Chickasaw County. Married to Clinton J. Hammond, Aug. 23, 1879.

Leaves daughter, Mrs. Ruby Bishop, Frederic, Wis.; four sons, [Owen] Pratt, Charles City; Ward, Ionia; Dr. Loyd Hammond, Houston, Tex., and Dr. Claud Hammond; five grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren'

Her husband died Aug. 12, 1898, and a brother, Owen, in December, 1939, at Waterloo.

Funeral, 2 p. m. Tuesday in the Congregational Church; burial in Greenwood emetery near Nashua.

ALICE I. HAMMOND, 70*, DIES IN TEXAS

Native of Nashua, Lived Most of Her Life at Chickasaw.

Mrs. Alice I. Hammond died Saturday, at Beaumont, Texas, May 1, 1943, at the age of 70* years and four months.

Alice Isabelle Feeney, daughter of Parney and Emily Feeney, was born in Nashua, December 31, 1863.

Early in life she moved with her parents to Chickasaw and she lived practically her entire life in that community, except for a short time she lived in Howard County and the past four years she resided in Ionia. She was married to Clinton J. Hammond, August 23, 1879. Mr. Hammond passed away August 12, 1898.

Five children were born to them: Ruby Pearl Bishop of Frederic, Wisconsin; Owen Pratt of Charles City, Ward B. of Ionia, Dr. Claude J. of Beaumont, Texas, and Dr. Lloyd D. of Houston, Texas.

Fifty-four years ago she united with the Congregational Society of the Old Stone church in Chickasaw when Rev. Packard was pastor. Later she became a member of the Ionia church. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of the Ionia Chapter. She was a devoted mother, a sincere Christian, a loyal friend and neighbor, and was ever ready to help in time of need. Her cheery presence has helped to brighten many a home.

Besides her children she leaves to mourn her departure five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, besides other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held at the Congregational Church at Ionia at 2 o'clock Tuesday, may 4. Rev. Wilbur L. Sanford, officiating, and interment was made at Greenwood Cemetery near Nashua, in charge of Perry Funeral Service of New Hampton.
