William Frederick Schoenfeld was born in Province Posen, Germany, Jan. 28, 1858.
There he was brought up in a Christian home and received a thorough religious education.

When a boy of 11 years, he came with his parents to America, and settled at Beaver Dam, Wis. After 3 years they moved to Ionia and he has lived in this vicinity ever since.

On Oct. 11, 1884, he was married to Mary Erion of Alta Vista, starting housekeeping immediately on his farm 2 1/2 miles southeast of Ionia, where they enjoyed farm life for 33 years.

In 1917 they decided to retire from active farming and enjoy a well-deserved rest. A beautiful home on the south edge of Ionia was built, where they resided until his death.

About a year ago Mr. Schoenfeld was afflicted with a heart ailment which affected his entire organism. Three months ago he was confined to his bed, gradually growing weaker until on Feb. 5, 1937, at the age of 79 years, 8 days, the Lord called him home.
Mr. Schoenfeld has been a member of the Evangelical church all his life, living up to its teachings and always keeping up the family worship in his home. He was known as an ambitious, untiring worker, ever honest and reliable, always neighborly and well experienced.

He leaves to mourn his lifelong companion of 52 wedded years and six children: Mrs. Julia Grove, New Hampton. Louis, Ionia; Mrs. Minnie Killebrew, Nebo, Ill.; Mrs. Elda McCollum, New Hampton, and Edward and Frederick of Nashua; also two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Schurz of Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Emma Smith of Ulm, Minn., and one brother, Theodore of Waterloo, 21 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m Monday at the congregational church, Ionia, burial at Greenwood Cemetery.

Casket beareres were eight grandsons, Bert Schoenfeld, Laurence, Roy, Glenn, Lynn, Charles, Grant, and Warren Grove.

Rev. Artz of Charles City officiated, assisted by Rev. Halbert of Ionia.
