Obituary for Betty J. Niewoehner

Betty Jean Niewoehner, age 78, a lifelong resident of Fredericksburg, Iowa died Saturday, September 14, 2013, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at the Peace United Church of Christ, Fredericksburg with Pastor Burt Williams presiding.

Interment will be held in Rose Hill Cemetery, with Tony McNally, Cory Rochford, Kreig Jacque, Shain Kroenecke, Tod Walker, Michael Taylor and Jeremy Koppin serving as pallbearers.

Friends may greet the family 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home in Fredericksburg. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Betty Jean Niewoehner was born October 27, 1934, in New Hampton, IA, the daughter of Albert and Emma (Rabe) Hagedorn. Betty received her education in Fredericksburg and graduated in 1952. On June 21, 1953, she married Raymond Niewoehner at Peace United Church of Christ in Fredericksburg. To this union, two daughters were born. The couple owned and worked side by side at the Gambles Hardware Store in Fredericksburg until 1997.

Betty was a lifelong member of the Peace United Church of Christ and was active in Legion Auxiliary. After retiring, she volunteered for several years at the school in Fredericksburg where she helped many children. She was fond of camping around the United States with her family and traveling to several countries abroad. Betty loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were the light of her life.

Betty is survived by her husband, Raymond of Fredericksburg; two daughters, Lora (Charlie) Wakefield of Cedar Rapids and Pam (Chuck) Stone of Fredericksburg; two brothers, Wayne (Christine) Hagedorn of Fredericksburg and Roger (Linda) Hagedorn of Sumner; seven grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Ruth Pries; and son-in-law, Jeff Adams.
