Lou was born in the family home on July 2, 1924, in Chickasaw County, Iowa the son of John and Verna Cagley. He moved with his wife and four children to Oregon in 1952, where he worked at several jobs; lumberjack, road construction, dairy farmer, contractor and his last job as maintenance supervisor at Woodland Park Hospital in Portland.

Lou was always an avid vegatable gardener, supplying his neighbors, bowling partners and family with produce. Another of his hobbies was bowling (he was disappointed that he never bowled a 300 game). He was also "Mr. Fix-it". He loved to build glider swings and windmills for his children and neighbors. Around the camp/hunting sites were several macrameed lawn chairs made by Lou. He loved to go deer hunting with "the group" for many years.

The last month of his life was spent in Coos Bay in the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Allen. All four of his kids spent lots of time there helping with his care. Dad told them many times that he was so happy to be there with his kids. He was very much a man of integrity, never complaining about the cards he was dealt (he was diagnosed with cancer Dec. 19, 2008).

Lou is survived by his first wife, Shirley Cagley of Coos Bay, Oregan; his four children, David (Susi) Cagley of Spokane, Janice (Allen) Ellis of Coos Bay, Vicky (Jim) Walker of Dallas, Marcia (Jim) Carlisle of Brookings; one "adopted" daughter, Myrna (Jerry) Harris of Roseburg; two stepsons, Michael Clark, Texas and Dennis Clark, Eugene. 19 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; brother, Lyle (Gerry) Cagley of Antioch, California; sister, Selma Bell of North Bend; many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a special bowling/working friend, Vern Ahrens, and Dad's "special lady", Betty Antons of Portland.

Lou was preceded in death by his parents, John and Verna Cagley; older sister, Ellen Sands and second wife, Verl Clark.
