PIONEER BURIED
IN NEW HAMPTON

Funeral for McCarthy, 78,
Held; Widow and Two
Sons Left.

NEW HAMPTON, Jan. 22.— Funeral services were held Tuesday morning for William McCarthy, 78. retired farmer, at St Joseph's Church, the Rev. Thomas J. Dowling. pastor, officiating.

Mr. McCarthy was born before the town of New Hampton was platted, on July 7, 1856 in New Hampton Township, Chickasaw County. For 72 years he lived on a farm southeast of New Hampton.

He married Catherine Donovan in New Hampton, May 21, 1894. Six years ago they retired from the farm to their home on West Court Street here.

He is survived by his widow, two sons, one brother and two sisters: T. J. McCarthy, Independence; Dan McCarthy, New Hampton; Robert E. McCarthy. New Hampton; Mrs, Elizabeth McCarthy, St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. Paul Kempendorf, Chicago, Ill.

Pallbearers were J. C. Tierney, W. M. Smith, J. J. Burke, Matt Keegan, A. M. Russell and Edward Murphy, Lawler.
