Kathryn R. Knutson, age 63, of New Hampton, died on Monday, February 16, 2009, at her home.

Kathryn Rosemary (Mikes) Knutson was born on January 27, 1946, to James and Eleanor (Gerstmeyer) Mikes in New Hampton. Kathy grew up in Fredericksburg where she graduated from high school in 1964. She then attended Waterloo School of Nursing where she attained her LPN certificate of nursing; she was employed as a nurse at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. Kathy was united in marriage to John C. Knutson on February 12, 1966, at Fredericksburg United Methodist Church. The couple made their home in New Hampton.

Kathy worked at the New Hampton Medical Clinic before becoming employed at Dedic Denistry office for several years. She was an active volunteer for Hospice, Red Cross Blood Mobile, Allen Memorial Hospital and New Hampton Hospital. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, riding horses, decorating for the holidays, playing softball, and spending time with family and friends. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Kathy is survived by her husband John of New Hampton; two daughters Amanda (Grant) Griffin of Wilmette, IL, and Emily Knutson (fiance Andrew Dust) of New Hampton; one brother Richard (Lou Ann) Mikes of Sanibel, FL; several cousins, nieces and nephews; one aunt Shirley Melugin of Fredericksburg, and one uncle Joseph Gerstmeyer of Reseda, CA.

She is preceded in death by her parents James and Eleanor Mikes.

Burial will be in New Hampton Cemetery at a later date.

Visitation will be Friday, February 20, 2009 from 4-7 PM and will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday, February 21, 2009 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton.
