Raymond B. Nystel, Age 73 of New Hampton, IA died on Thursday, October 23, 2008 at New Hampton Nursing and Rehab Center.

Raymond Bernard Nystel was born on May 9, 1935 to Iver and Martha (Kjarvik) Nystel on the family farm in Jacksonville Township, Chickasaw County. He attended Jacksonville Township District Ten School. Ray took over his family farm where he farmed until 1985. Ray then worked for other farmers in the area. He moved to New Hampton in 1994 where he worked as a janitor for the Heritage Residence until his health wouldnt allow him. He then worked for the New Hampton Library and the Carnegie Cultural Center.

Ray enjoyed farming, working outside, carpentry, sharing his Norwegian heritage and especially spending time with his children, grandchildren and his dog Spunky. Raymond was a member of Crane Creek Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Raymond is survived by his children Raelene (John) Maas of New Hampton, IA, Julie (T.J.) Schendel of Des Moines, IA and Rick (Anna) Nystel of Waterloo, IA; grandchildren Logan and Cameron Maas, Tate Schendel, Meghan, Myah and Tyler Nystel; sister-in-law Rose Nystel of New Hampton, IA; brother-in-law Lawrence Stansbery of Waterloo, IA; several beloved nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters Mae Njus, Aleda Lee, Hazel Lee, Evelyn Stansbery and Mavis Olson; brothers Edward, Kenneth, Ivan and Arthur.

Burial will be in Crane Creek Cemetery, Lawler, IA with Ron Olson, Jerry Olson, Charlie Lee, Jim Lee, Irvin Nystel and Larry Stansbery serving as casket bearers.

Visitation will be from 4:00pm to 7:00pm on Sunday, October 26, 2008 at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in New Hampton. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Funeral service will be 10:30am on Monday, October 27, 2008 at Crane Creek Immanuel Lutheran Church,rural Lawler, IA with Pastor Matthew Voyer as officiant.
