Stella Irene (Hyberger) Miller

Stella I. Miller, 96, of Norwalk and formerly of Cresco, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2000, at the Regency Care Center in Norwalk.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 17, at noon, at the St. Joseph's Worship Center in Cresco, with the Rev. Michael Tauke officiating. Burial was at the Calvary Cemetery in Cresco.

Casketbearers were Chet Miller, Laura and Kristin Tiedemann, Pat Hyberger, Jenni Seeger, and Jerry J. Samuelson. Honorary bearers were Paul Sir, Neil Polaschek, Dale Krieger and Bob Hyberger.

Stella Irene (Hyberger) Miller was born Jan. 9, 1904, at Lawler, the daughter of Joseph P. and Mathilda (Finnegan) Hyberger. As a young girl, the family moved to Cresco and Stella attended and graduated from Assumption High School.

She worked at various places following graduation until she was united in marriage to Claud Miller June 14, 1933, at the Assumption Church in Cresco.

Stella liked to knit and spent much time knitting afghans for herself and her family. She was a person who liked to have everything in good order and believed in the Book of Ecclesiastes, which states that to everything there is a season and a time for everything under heaven.

Stella was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society at Assumption and then at St. Joseph's Church. She also belonged to the National Association for Retired Federal Employees.

Survivors include her children, James (Joyce) Miller of Rochester, Minn., Steven Miller of Des Moines, and Claudelle (Bill) Tiedemann of Des Moines; 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Tarcy Hyberger of Cresco; and many nieces and nephews.

Stella was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Claud, who died February 1, 1987; four brothers, Joseph, Raymond, Virgil and Leo Hyberger; and 4 sisters, Ruth Hyberger, Pearl Krieger, Colletta O'Connor Foote and Mary Willson.
