Gary Lee Welsh, 51 year old resident of Nowata, passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2000 at his home.
Mr. Welsh was born on March 31, 1948 in New Hampton, Iowa to Marion Alberta Brown Welsh and Cecil James Welsh. He grew up in northeastern Iowa and received his education there. He entered the Army and served in Vietnam.
He returned to Iowa in 1959, later moving to Missouri and then to Nowata in 1982. On August 9, 1969 he married Patricia Mae Cole at Greeley, Iowa. He had worked as a welder and in construction. He collected miniature scale model cars, enjoyed restoring old cars and loved to hunt and fish. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Mr. Welsh is survived by his wife, Patricia Mae Welsh of the home in Nowata; his mother, Marion Henderson of New Hampton, Iowa; two sons, Junior and Johnathan Welsh, both of Nowata; six grandchildren: Megan Welsh, Katie Welsh, Gage Welsh, Justin Robinson, Trent Hamil and Justin Hamil; one brother, Kenneth Welsh of Blue Earth, Minnesota; five sisters: Patricia Meyer of Elkader, Iowa, Bonnie Dana of Forrest City, Iowa, Sharon Holt of Las Vegas, Nevada, Kathy Cole of Davenport, Iowa and Sandra Johnson of New Hampton, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his father, Cecil James Welsh.
Services will be held today, Tuesday, February 22, 1000 at the Benjamin Funeral Chapel at 2 p.m. Brother Lawrence Green will be officiating. Interment will follow at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Nowata.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Benjamin Funeral Home, Nowata.
